SKIN PEN MICRONEEDLING

SkinPen is not your skin classic treatment. It is the first FDA-approved medical grade device used during microneedling sessions to minimize the appearance of fine lines, moderate-to-severe wrinkles, acne scars, pigmentation and pore size. It is now the gold standard of microneedling.

This incredibly precise device allows for the controlled induction of your skin’s own natural healing process. This is promoted through the creation of thousands of precise “micro-injuries” in your dermis. This automatically triggers the synthesis of new, healthy collagen without causing scars to form.

  • 94% of patients noticed an improvement with how their fine lines and wrinkles looked at one month post-treatment.

  • 80% of patients said they noticed an improvement in acne scars in the treated area at one month post-treatment.

  • 90% of patients would recommend Skin Pen Microneedling to a friend or family one month post-treatment.

FAQs

Is Treatment Painful?
It is very important to us that you are comfortable during this procedure which is why we apply numbing cream on the area to be treated beforehand. Most clients say that they barely feel anything.

How Exactly Does It Work?
SkinPen microneedling stimulates your body’s natural wound healing process. This is achieved by creating thousands of micro-injuries when the very fine needles penetrate your skin. These “wounds” trigger your skin to produce more collagen: a special type of protein that keeps your skin tight, young, and healthy.

How many sessions will I need?
This depends on the skin concern that is being treated. Firming results can be seen as early as 1 month post-treatment. For acne scarring and pigmentation it can take 3-6 sessions before seeing desired results. For more stubborn cases 6-9 treatments might be recommended. Each microneedling session should be done between 4-6 weeks.

Where Can Skin Pen Microneedling Be Used?
Besides for the face, Skin Pen can be used on the neck, decolette and hands for rejuvenation. It can also be used on stomach and thighs for stretch marks and scarring.

Pre-Treatment Guidelines

To help you prepare for treatment, follow these guidelines:

  • Avoid Accutane in the six months prior to beginning your treatment sessions.

  • Do not use topical agents that may increase the sensitivity of your skin such as retinoids, exfoliants, topical antibiotics or acids 5-7 days prior to your treatment.

  • Do not take anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen, Motrin, or Advil for at least 24 hours prior to your microneedling session. These will interfere with the natural inflammatory process that is critical for your skin rejuvenation.

  • Avoid IPL/Laser procedures, unprotected sun exposure, or sunburn for at least 2 weeks prior to your procedure.

  • No waxing, depilatory creams, or electrolysis to the area being treated for 5-7 days prior.

  • Do not shave the day of the procedure to avoid skin irritation. If there’s dense hair present in the treatment area, shave the day before you arrive for your appointment.

  • If you’re prone to cold sores, take an antiviral agent for 2 days prior to and the day of the treatment.

  • Avoid blood thinning agents for one week prior because bruising is a common side effect of microneedling.

  • Please come to your appointment with a clean face.

Post-Treatment Tips

  • Avoid prolonged sun exposure to direct sunlight for at least 2 weeks. After 24 hours, always use sunblock (30 SPF or higher) and wear a hat if you’re outside.

  • Do not take any anti-inflammatory medications for one week after the procedure.

  • Do not use ice on your face, and avoid using arnica/bromelain. These may interfere with the natural inflammatory process that’s critical for your skin rejuvenation.

  • Use a painkiller, such as Tylenol, if you experience any soreness.

  • Avoid strenuous exercises for 48 hours that cause sweating as well as jacuzzis, saunas, and steam baths.

  • Use only mineral makeup after 24 hours.

  • Sleep on your back with the head of the bed elevated to minimize swelling or pain as needed.

The Healing Process: What to Expect After a Microneedling Treatment

Microneedling is a quick and non-invasive cosmetic procedure with minimal side effects. However, it’s quite normal to experience the following:

Day 1-3

A sunburn-like effect is normal. Your skin may feel tight, dry or sensitive. Do not touch for the first 4 hours. Treat the skin gently by washing it with a gentle cleanser, cool water no earlier than 6-8 hours after treatment. Only apply hyaluronic acid as directed by your skin specialist.

Some redness may also be present and in some cases, patients may experience slight bruising that can last for 5-7 days. In rare cases temporary swelling for 2-4 days.

Day 2-7

Peeling may start 3-5 days after the treatment. You’ll notice skin dryness and flaking which is due to an increased turnover of skin cells. DO NOT pick, scratch, or scrub at treated skin!

Important information: You must allow the old skin to flake off naturally and keep it moisturized at all times. Talk to your skin specialist about which products to use.

Day 5-7

You may start your regular skin care products again, once your skin no longer feels irritated. Most of our patients have noticed continued skin improvement over the months following their last treatment.

For best results: We recommend follow-up and repeat microneedling treatments every 4-6 weeks, with a series of 3-6 treatments depending on your personalized care plan.
